James Coleman

Teaching

My experience as an educator has led me to particularly value two aspects of learning. First, that it is vital to deploy a variety of instructional strategies to critically explore issues. Second, that engaging personal experience, as suggested by feminist pedagogies, allows students to integrate their full personhood—their social, intellectual, and embodied selves—into learning processes, which is crucial to immersive and transformative personal and intellectual growth.
